LOTO rates this game: 3/5
History: Back in the early days of gaming, Horror themed games were very tame, or they managed to be lucky enough to not be looked at closely. But, when Mortal Kombat hit arcades, the ESRB Rating system was created; which now encludes eC, E, E10+, T, M, and AO. Now, a game came along (Thrill Kill) that would have been the first to be an AO rated game. Now, this game was never released, due the the fact that EA bought the company who was making Thrill Kill and refused to sell the rights to the game, or release it themselves. (Coincidentally, EA bought the rights to Grand Theft Auto a little while afterward).
Thrill Kill is basically a fighting game, but really gory. Worse than Mortal Kombat in terms of brutality. The premise is that each of these characters has died and gone to Hell, and a demon named Maruka decides to hold a fighting tournament and pit each of them against eachother, and whoever wins, gets to be reborn. Each of the characters is like a twisted, warped version of what they were in their past life. The characters inclued Violet, the cotorshionist (Spellcheck), Belladonna, the housemaid, Oddball, the Prisoner w/ handcuffs/mental patient w/ straightjacket/hospital patient w/ no arms, Mammoth, who looks like a huge gorillia, Dr. Faustus, who is a doctor with a bear trap on his face, The Imp, who is a midgit with stilts/spikes he stands on, Cleetus, the cannibal, and Tormentor, the, well, tormentor. I won't give away the Boss characters, though.
The gameplay, is very different. Basically, you and 4 other freaks are in a square room. You have to fight the other ones, while they fight you. Now, since your dead, you can't really have a health bar, so Paradox and Virgin Interactive were thinking: "Why not give them the opposite?" So, now you've got something called a Kill Meter. It goes up as you hit other people, and when it fills up, you are granted the ability to kill one of the other players. There are 4 basic kills depending on which button you press. You can hit them so hard they stick to the wall, you can hit them so hard they explode, you can decapitate them in one hit, (the computer almost always does this) and my favourite, you can hit them so hard, the stick to the roof, and theri blood rains down on you as you celebrate. After you kill two of the opponents, and it's down to you and one other freak, once your kill meter fills up, you can perform a Thrill Kill. Basically, these are like the regular kills, only a lot more sadistic, and excessive. I won't give that away either.
The Ending FMVs are where this game falls short. Basically, Paradox comissioned some random Russian company, and only gave them like, two weeks, and it shows. They're really short, and not very well animated, and don't tell you much about the character you didn't already know going into it. You can probably find them on Youtube. (Note there were 3 versions of thrill kill made, one unfinished, with no FMVs, one with FMVs, but some mild censoring done, and one almost finished, and uncesored).
I reccomend this game if you want an extreme gorefest, but since it's unfinished, and since the FMVs suck, I'm going to give this game a 3/5.
